Expanding model choice in Microsoft 365 Copilot

Try Microsoft 365 Copilot

Available on desktop and mobile devices

We’re excited to announce that we’re expanding the models that power Microsoft 365 Copilot with the addition of Anthropic models.

Copilot will continue to be powered by OpenAI’s latest models, and now our customers will have the flexibility to use Anthropic models too—starting in Researcher or when building agents in Microsoft Copilot Studio. The addition of Claude Sonnet 4 and Claude Opus 4.1 advances our commitment to bring the best AI innovation from across the industry to Microsoft 365 Copilot, tuned for work and tailored to your business needs.

Here’s how Anthropic models are showing up in Microsoft 365 Copilot starting today:

  • Researcher agent: Our first-of-its-kind reasoning agent can now be powered by either OpenAI’s deep reasoning models or Anthropic’s Claude Opus 4.1. Whether you’re building a detailed go-to-market strategy, analyzing emerging product trends, or creating a comprehensive quarterly report, you can now select your preferred model to power in-depth work. Researcher helps you tackle complex, multistep research—reasoning over not only the web and trusted third-party data, but all of your work content across your emails, chats, meetings, files, and more to deliver highly-skilled expertise on demand—and now you have model choice.
  • Copilot Studio: Claude Sonnet 4 and Claude Opus 4.1 models are now available as model options in Copilot Studio, enabling you to easily create and customize enterprise-grade agents. With this launch, you can build, orchestrate, and manage agents powered by Anthropic models for deep reasoning, workflow automation, and flexible agentic tasks. And with multiagent systems and prompt tools in Copilot Studio, you can even mix which models are used for specialized tasks from Anthropic, OpenAI, or any of the models in the Azure Model Catalog.

Once you opt-in, you’ll be able to switch between OpenAI and Anthropic models in Researcher with ease.

In Copilot Studio, a drop-down menu lets you select from a range of model options—no more jumping between platforms to find the right tool.

Get started

Claude in Researcher is rolling out today through the Frontier Program to Microsoft 365 Copilot-licensed customers who opt in. And to build agents, users can also opt in to try Claude in Copilot Studio. Anthropic models are hosted outside Microsoft-managed environments and subject to Anthropic’s Terms of Service. To get started, your organization’s admin can enable access in the Microsoft 365 admin center. Learn more here.

This is just the beginning—we’re committed to delivering model innovation at speed to empower every person with Microsoft 365 Copilot and transform every business process with agents. And stay tuned: Anthropic models will bring even more powerful experiences to Microsoft 365 Copilot.
